VRML Extension problem

Does anyone know if and how it is possible to have a non-standard VRML node
with a non-standard VRML field in a VRML file? To be more specific the
following causes QV to core dump:

Coordinate4 {
fields [ MFVec4f point ]
point []
}

Would greatly appreciate any pointers.
