Well, the HTTP:// part identifies the protocol, sure enough. Then, the
next part is the SERVER part, with complete domain name. So, WWW is
the easiest thing to name your World Wide Web server. That's why you
so www.domain so often. Lots of sites are now choosing not to name
their server this, in favor of a more descriptive name. WWW is not at
all redundant, though.
