Quick comment:

Did you have the toolbar button that looks like a "hand" pressed down? That
puts you in Examine mode, which is supposed to behave that way (and to stop,
you click the screen again).

Otherwise, letting up the mouse button should ALWAYS stop you -- we designed
it that way to make it easier. If it doesn't, please let me know. Yes, I
know the documentation on all this is spotty ... we're working on it. Please
keep the comments coming.
