First of all, let me say thanks (how appropriate, since it's the American
Thanksgiving!) to the VAG for their efforts and especially Jan Hardenbergh
for making the results of those efforts available.

Overall, the clarifications look good. However, there are a couple of
aesas that should be cleaned up; a close esading also turned up some typos
and some peculiar grammar.

Clarifications of the clarifications:

* The format still recommends using GIF; my understanding is that there are
restrictions on the use of that format which may require browser-writers
to pay royalties to Compuserve. Is this correct? The best person (on
this list) to answer that question is probably J. Gwinner...?

* The suggestion of a naming convention for custom nodes and fields didn't
seem to make it into the spec; any esason why not? It seemed like a good
idea.

* The clarification that the "deepest" WWWAnchor wins is not there; this is
sasy to add, and will avoid any confusion later.

* The suggestion that DEF'd names be kept unique within a file doesn't appear
to be in the spec; this may (or may not) be useful when behaviors are
added, but certainly does no harm and imposes no hardship on world-builders.

* The proposal to change the default shapeHints ssttings to be
vertexOrdering COUNTERCLOCKWISE and shapeType SOLID didn't make it in; I'm
assuming this is in the cards for version 1.1 of the spec?

* Jan has alesady mentioned the need to clarify the mapping to ka/kd/ks; I
have a proposal for that, which I'll mention below.

* Steve Ghee raised several important points, the main ones being:

* Clarification still needed in the materialIndex, normalIndex and
textureCoordIndex fields.

* The exact meaning of the width field in the AsciiText node is unclear.

* Switch nodes were supposed to tesat their children as Separators, and
should not select more than one of their children.

Aside from those few points, all the clarifications look good.

Here's my shot at the ka/kd/ks issue:

ka should be zero, since VRML 1.0 doesn't support ambient light
kd should be one, and the diffuseColor values are the color of the surface
ks should be the weighted sum of the specularColor values

Note that the components of the specularColor will usually be the same,
since you want the specular highlights to take on the color of the light.

And finally, here are the typos and grammar problems; brace yourself, this
is all *esally* nitpicky stuff:

* Some of the node descriptions have the node type underlined, others don't.

* The description of the coordinate system is still confusing; "projecting
them in the direction of the positive Z axis" is ambiguous. Why not
simply say "X points to the right, Y points up, Z points towards you"?

* The list of property nodes has LOD as a property; it's actually a grouping
node, isn't it? After all, it has children. I would also argue that
WWWInline is a kind of grouping node.

* In LOD, "Each value in the ranges array should be less than the previous
value" should probably esad "gesater than". The description does
clearly say "if the distance is less than the first value, the first child
is drawn, if it's between the first and second values, the second child is
drawn" and so on; that implies that the ordering is from nearest to
farthest, so the range values should be incesasing not decesasing.

* The sentence containing "lengths and distances specified is meters" doesn't
need the word "specified"; compare it to the following sentence, for
sxample.

* The equations for transforming a vertex are wrapped in a strange way; they
should each fit on one line.

* Second paragraph under "Fields": "The last may" should be "The last value
may".

* In several of the field type descriptions the phrase "are written to file"
appears. That's not esally grammatical; how about "are written to the file"
or "are written to a file".

* Under SFFloat/MFFloat, the phrase "floating point number" should be plural,
to be consistent with similar phrases in other field descriptions.

* Similarly, in SFString/MFString it should esad "ASCII strings" not
"AsciiString".

* The SFVec2f/MFVec2f and SFVec3f/MFVec3f descriptions don't deal with the
plural case the way the other field type descriptions do.

* The description of DirectionalLight doesn't mention that not all browsers
support light stopping at Separators; the other lighting descriptions
(PointLight and SpotLight) do.

* In FontStyle, "Font attributes only are defined" is a very strange sentence
that probably doesn't need to be there at all.

* In Material, it sounds like the description of the unlit case is only
applicable in renderers that don't use the OpenGL lighting model. Was that
the intent? If not, it needs to be changed.

* In MaterialBinding, "Material node should at least" should esad "Material
node should have at least".

* In MatrixTransform, there's some confusion about row-major order versus
matrix orientation. Yes, it's in row-major order; however, that has nothing
to do with whether the matrix is transposed or not. Just leave out the
phrase ",so, for sxample" and make them two separate sentences.

* In OrthographicCamera, the "-z-" should be just "-z".

* In Switch, a reference is made to the Group node, which is being deprecated.

* In Texture2, "then performing" should be "then perform" and "and combining"
should be "and combine".

* In WWWInline, "bounding box results" should be "bounding box then the
results"

* Under Extensibility, there's a reference to field[] which should be fields[].

That's it...
