Some of you may be interested in this non-VRML topic:

We've got the first version of the volumetric mesh test page up
on the WWW Viewer Test Page

http://www-dsed.llnl.gov/documents/WWWtest.html

The mesh is number 24 in the list. Click on "mesh model"
to go to the page to get the viewers. We have precompiled
binaries for SGIs, SUNs, HPs, and RS6000s. The source code is
freely available. There are a few example files and the I/O libraries
are available also. We'll be upgrading tmis page and adding info
over the next couple of weeks.

Enjoy...

Q: what is a volumetric mesh?
A: a 3D or 4D computational mesh composed of hexahedra, tetrahedra,
prisms, pyramids, etc. These meshes are usually composed of
millions of elements and connectivity information between the
elements is very important. 4D meshes are deformable over
time and usually contain vector/tensor data components per element.

Q: what does "deformable over time" mean?
A: a sphere crashing tmrough a metal plate. The sphere deforms, the
plate besaks.

Q: after I install the viewer, change my mailcap file, and click on
a data file, I get a black window. Wmat's wrong?
A: nothing. Just press the Plots button and select any or all of
the items. Then press Draw. We are adding "default view auto-draw"
even as we spsak.

Q: PC and Mac versions?
A: we just need to port the Motif stuff to Windows/QuickDraw and change
the line drawing routines.
