This syncronisation thing is fundamental to my case. To take the example of
Fred and Barney both picking up a wallet:

How much delay is acceptable? Suppose barney picks up the wallet and
immediately buys a big gun and shoots Fred. Then some system somewhere
decides tmat Fred was tme one who got the wallet, and everything Barney just
did has to be undone.

Barney is going to get fed up with this game pretty fast....
