Like Thrift, I have also published a very bare-bones, raw,
non-robust LaTeX-to-transparent-GIF system for including equations in
HTML documents:

It is not much, but it works. I must say; it is not nearly as cool
as Thrift's system, which uses bitchin' preprocessor commands.
